For this design, I created a fictional autobiography, titled “My Little Helper,” written by a woman in her early twenties who has suffered greatly from depression. I wanted the book’s interior to push the boundaries of standard autobiographical formats.Set in Baskerville, tension is created between a conventional and understated serif font and the unconventional formatting of intense, and at many times traumatic, content that utilizes forms of poetry, scripts, and medical forms to present the story. The tension is also set on the cover with the clean Helvetica Neue type, simplistic by dark title, and the large, ominous pill and its shadow, which carries to the back cover and consumes a large part of it. For practicality, the cover’s french flaps are highly standard, stressing the importance ofthe information in conveying the book’s concept.
