Using Photoshop CS5.5, I used the dodge and burn tools to emphasize her eye and the crack that runs through its centre. I also blurred the background to further emphasize the statue’s face.

I simply made this image a black-and-white copy of the original. No other edits were made.

I prefer the edited color photo. The B/W doesn’t have enough contrast. Consider adjusting the red channel if you like the B/W which might give you better contrast for the angel’s face. Otherwise, nice work. Cheers.
